EPV SOLAR Expands Manufacturing Operations with German Facility

January 15, 2008 - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA:

EPV SOLAR, Inc. (formerly Energy Photovoltaics, Inc.), a thin-film solar module manufacturer and technology developer headquartered in New Jersey, USA, announced today that it will significantly expand its manufacturing operations with a new facility being built in Senftenberg, Germany. The new facility, which will be owned by EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH, a wholly-owned EPV SOLAR company, will have an initial capacity of 25 megawatts (MW) per year. This new capacity will enable EPV SOLAR to deploy its thin-film photovoltaics for power installations in Germany and the EU and to meet unprecedented global demand for the company’s products.

The Senftenberg manufacturing facility, in the state of Brandenburg, will feature EPV SOLAR’s amorphous silicon technology and proprietary manufacturing process. The facility is expected to create more than 200 new manufacturing and technical jobs for the Senftenberg area, fast becoming a PV manufacturing center. EPV SOLAR Germany has support from the state of Brandenburg and the city of Senftenberg. Construction has begun, and manufacturing operations are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2008. Product sales contracts have been signed with several customers for more than 300 MW of thin-film modules for delivery through 2012.

“EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH is a priority for EPV SOLAR and is just the beginning of our capacity expansion,” said Scott T. Massie, the company’s Chief Executive Officer. “The demand from Germany and the EU for our cost-effective solar technology has evolved into a need for EPV SOLAR to locate a manufacturing facility in one of the world’s most important growth areas for solar power. We applaud the city of Senftenberg for its commitment to the development of solar energy and for its enthusiastic welcome of EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH.”

About EPV SOLAR
Founded in 1991, EPV SOLAR develops its own manufacturing equipment and process for the production of high-performance, low-cost, amorphous silicon thin-film photovoltaic modules and products. EPV SOLAR announced $77.5 million of new financing in June 2007 for the purpose of expanding its thin-film photovoltaic module manufacturing capacity. The company plans to expand its annual module manufacturing capacity by approximately 85 MW in each of the next several years. Several countries and states in the USA are in negotiation with EPV SOLAR to be the site for manufacturing capacity expansion. In October, EPV SOLAR received the New Jersey Clean Energy Manufacturer of the Year Award for its leadership role in growing the market for clean energy technologies. Earlier in the year, EPV SOLAR received the Euromoney and Ernst & Young Global Renewable Energy Award; Equity Deal of the Year in Technology for 2007, which recognizes achievement for driving growth in the renewable energy industry sector.
